How the game is scored
Spots off: Add the absolute gap between your rank and each selected team’s ESPN conference seed. Rank a team #2 and it sits #5? That adds 3 spots. A perfect conference board is 0.
Conviction points: Each selected team earns 10 points minus its seed gap, with a floor of 0. Add all 20 teams, then multiply by your ballot’s early-call bonus. Maximum: 400 points.
The bonus: 2× for locks on or before October 1, falling evenly to 1× on April 15. Those are fixed game dates in UTC. Your bonus stays tied to that ballot’s lock date; a new ballot gets a new date.
The benchmark: Regular-season conference seeds are a live yardstick for your title picks, not a forecast of who will win the playoffs. We score only the 20 teams you selected. Ties use ESPN’s supplied seeds. Unplayed seasons and missing seeds remain unscored.
